Recently I had the pleasure of sitting down with R&B Crooner Terrell Carter for a one on one at Justin’s Restaurant in Atlanta. Terrell is famous for a lot of things including his solo music career, being a contestant on X- Factor USA, his acting debuts in Tyler Perry’s plays and films and his awesomely maintained physique.  It was really refreshing to see such a handsome man speak so humbly about himself.  Read my interview below as he opens up about his new cd, health and fitness, love, and more,…

Alright Mr. Carter,…what is your motivation for your new cd:

When I have couples tell me that songs from my records have helped save their marriages, it means a lot. It lets me know that my voice is being heard in more than one way, not just for entertainment purposes, but it’s actually healing relationships.  I’ve always wanted to give people something to help heal, to help move forward and to be positive and the new album will continue to do that.

Wow, what is the name of your new CD and when can we expect it?

The new cd is called Terrell Carter: Love Is A Serious Business and it’s about love and relationships— the ups and downs. Available on my birthday, which is August 14th

His musical influence:

Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Patti LaBelle, Karen Clark, The Clark Sisters, people with real vocal abilities without the autotunes.

On his stageplay:

I have a stage play called Prosperous Woman. It’s about four women who went to high school together. One of them is a rich woman whose husband dies at about 35 years old and the other girls come back for the funeral and all hell breaks loose. You will get to see a variety of situations play out like who’s jealous of who.

Why this play will stand out:

This play does have some faith based stuff in it, but at the same time, like Precious, the realness of it takes you to a different place. The material is raw, it pushes the envelope, very controversial.

Advice to upcoming artist:

You have to see the dream before you see it, or you won’t see it. Be honest with yourself, if you can sing then you focus on it and push forward every day. Continue to follow your dream, just because you’re not Beyonce doesn’t mean you’re not successful! Be an individual!!

Favorite pastime:

Cooking. I like to cook Southern, but healthy.  I would love to do a health and fitness program. Especially for African Americans, because so many of us have high blood pressure and are overweight. You can really make things taste good but go in a healthy direction.

Upcoming projects:

Yes, of course my album, Terrell Carter: Love Is A Serious Business will be out on August 14th, and you can also see me on a new HBO series called The Newsroom.  It’s a behind the scenes look at the people who make a nightly able show and after work they go to a bar— I work and sing there.

I am excited about Terrell and all of his projects,..
