The official trailer for Lifetime’s all-African-American remake of Steel Magnolias is finally here. The movie stars Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye, Phylicia Rashad, and her daughter Condola Rashad.
The updated version of the 1989 film “chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children — and hair and nails — all the important topics that bring women together.”
Latifah, who executive produces the movie, stars as M’Lynn (the Sally Field character), Woodard stars as Ouiser (originally played Shirley MacLaine), Phylicia Rashad as Clairee (originally played by Olympia Dukakais), Scott as Truvy (originally played by Dolly Patron), Oduye as Annelle (originally played by Daryl Hannah), and Condola Rashad as Shelby (originally played by Julia Roberts).
The Steel Magnolias remake was directed by Kenny Leon, who also directed ABC’s version of A Raisin In The Sun.
“The caliber of talent associated with this film is astounding and falls in line with our strategy to make Lifetime a first stop for the industry’s best both in front of and behind the camera,” Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Entertainment said in a recent statement.
