Sometimes when I’m stressed I blog. Good thing for us when Amy Kiefer is stressed she bakes.
Kiefer, Chief Cupcake Baker, along with her cousin Catherine Pfitzer, Chief Cupcake Marketer, are the owners of Sugar Moon Bake Shop.
The cupcakes were the byproducts of Kiefer’s stress relieving efforts. “I’m not a classically trained baker, I just did it for the love and passion of cupcakes,” she said. Both women were former non-profit execs that left their respective 9-to-5 jobs and dedicated themselves to the cupcake business. After spending a couple of years perfecting the recipes—Sugar Moon Bake Shop was born. “It’s more than a full-time job [for us],” Pfitzer happily expressed.
It’s a cute little shop, perfect for an after dinner dessert destination or a quick pop in to get your sugar fix. Sugar Moon Bake Shop is located at 707C East Lake Drive in Decatur. “It’s the perfect place for a cupcake shop,” said Kiefer, who lives in walking distance from the shop. The duo expressed how the Oakhurst community was very supportive and receptive of Sugar Moon. And just in case you were wondering, the shop’s name came from an old song that Kiefer was listening to while driving.
With flavors such as banana pudding, vanilla rosewater (@ishootatlanta personal fav) and red velvet you are sure to find something that will delight your taste buds. Also in addition to cupcakes there’s locally-made gourmet ice cream from High Road, hand-crafted oatmeal crème pies, cookies.
Next time you’re in the area you should swing by and treat yourself to a cupcake and tell ‘em BrownGirl sent you!
