What’s good people?……. back again for the week three recap of this young 2011 NFL season. So week three is an important week in the NFL season because it usually gives you clear insight on how your team is doing overall on both sides of the ball, how key additions or subtractions are effecting your team, how and if the injury bug is effecting your team and most importantly is your squad a “Pretender” or a “Contender”?

Yes wins and losses are key but if your team is gelling may be more important for a solid run. To quote my man LL (without licking the lips….. PAUSE), the theme of week three should be “Don’t Call It A Comeback” as the league saw a number of huge comeback wins that had me asking …… What Happened??????????????  Let’s start with the Pats who marched into Buffalo riding a 14 game winning streak and the league’s best offensive attack, so this has to be a cake walk right!!!!!!!!!!!

After a 21 – 0 start the Bills did one of those desperate moves that you pull only when playing Madden …. hit the reset button!!! Once the game came back on Brady had thrown 4 interceptions and with a late field goal the Bills pull off the upset.  Then we saw the Lions and the Vik’s square off in a Norris Division match-up in which the Lions (Yeah I Said It ….. THE LIONS) were favored. If we only played a half of football the Vik’s would be the best team in the league hands down as they lead 20 – 0 , but unfortunately for them we play two halves. The second half would see the Lions (YUP THE LIONS) outscore the Vik’s 26 -3 to win in overtime.

new-york-jets-logo-postersThe Jets would travel to Oakland only to find out that the Raiders consider themselves bullies too and remind them that ” Real Men Wear Black” with the 34 – 24 win. Side note if you don’t know who RUN DMC (Darren McFadden) is you better ask somebody!!!!!!  The Saints would again prove how tough it is to win in the “Dome” as they came back in a shoot out against the Texans.

The most intriguing game had to be the NFC showdown between the Eagles vs. the Giants. A game full of questions, especially concerning Mr. Vick. Would he play well after the concussion?  Would the Giants try to ruff him up?  Would the Philly D finally start to live up to the hype?  After the game what we did find out was that there were major notes for both teams. For the Giants we found out that there the same old Giants a solid team that when they get momentum they know how to win big games …. yeah even with Eli Manning.

For the Eagles we were simply left with more questions. Vick thought to have a broken right hand after the game (just a deep bruise reported on Monday) may not be able to play a whole season getting hit like this , Eagles still can’t run the ball in goal line situations , Eagles D is still shaky , and Without Vick what will they do?  Man this is one instance where the worlds of basketball and football mesh ……… didn’t we see this before (enter Miami Heat)??? Was it me or did the Vick’s postgame press conference resemble another great Virginia native & Philly Superstars press conference …… C’Mon Man We Talkin Bout Practice (Allen Iverson Pic).

Is Vick being treated differently than all the leagues other high profile quarterback’s? We’ll discuss it in this week’s “Say Word”. Listen folks there is a silver lining for all ya’ll teams that are struggling…… that is except for the Indianapolis Colts IT’S A WRAP. Colts fans you’re playing for pride that’s it. But for the other 31 teams there still a chance. After the dust settled with all the comebacks and upsets we had a number of hard fought games that came down to the wire with the Panthers , Browns , Niners, Chargers and Bucs pulling out the victory. Hey it’s a young season and it keeps getting better so stay tuned , we have no front runners yet but I still say GO PACK GO below are a quick recap of all week three scores in case you missed anything.

In this week’s version of “Say Word” we look at the super- athlete  that is Mike Vick. Early in his career, Vick was aware of his athletic ability.  He knew he was good and he let it be known on and off the field. Although he displayed questionable behavior on field & off field, he still earned the tag “leagues most exciting player.” And now the highest paid. Will he be ready to be on this stage and better yet was the NFL ready to have him mentioned among the untouchable elite (Manning, Brady, Rotheilsberger, Bress, etc).  So he left us for a while only to root for the elite and what we saw with them then and now, is that the league will do its best to protect them at any cost. However the “Prodigal Son” did return and with all the doubt swirling he showed us that maturity comes with age and will pay dividends under the right guidance. He made it all the way back not only proving himself on the field but off it earning the respect of his peers, the community and team hence the new $100 million dollar deal.

So with this week’s post game rant I ask the following two questions …… Does he have a right to be upset? And has he really become a member of the NFL elite class of QB?  Yeah he’s gonna get cheap shots because he frustrates the defense , but a simple word of advice—get rid of the ball quicker or do what you do run past everyone. Is he a part of the NFL elite in this writers opinion?

Yes he is, and he should be protected just as the others are.  At the end of the day he’s a bad man and one of the NFL’s most exciting and marketable players that will carry the league into the future, so let’s do the right thing. Just my thoughts man ….. What Ya’ll Think?
