New to East Ponce de Leon, but a 20 year old business is Erbert and Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop. Each one of their signature sub’s is based on a father’s bedtime stories to his children. To be honest, I’d never heard of the sandwich chain, before it landed on ponce and it was the bright color that drew me inside.
Once inside, I was immediately intrigued to learn that they prepare their sandwiches differently from their competitors. They “take out the guts”, (cut the bread and take out the soft white dough part). It allows for a an even portion of elements to make the sandwich.
But Don’t worry, nothing goes to waste. They leave the guts on top of the sandwich when they are done, and you can just eat it, or dip it in your soup- or throw it away it you prefer.
I stuck with my traditional turkey and ham sandwich which was really good. I also enjoyed my potato soup- so delicious. I dipped my “guts” in my soup. The staff was nice, very informative about the history of the sandwich shop. They offered samples for the indecisive, like myself. I sampled the Pompeii, which was a spicy chili chicken salad mix. Needless to say I was stuffed when I left, but I will certainly be back! Like them on Facebook and follow them on twitter.
