Last night I watched the premiere of The Braxton’s Family Values, featuring Toni Braxton and her sisters. The show takes a look at the relationships between the singer/songwriter Braxton, her mom, and her four sisters; Trina, Tamar, Traci and Towanda. All aspiring singers themselves and along with the interpersonal relationships of each family member, we get a peek into their lives.
Let me put out my disclaimer, and say that other people’s drama delights me. I have mastered minimizing the drama from my own life so; therefore I get my fix for it from reality TV.
Having said that, I have to begin with Tamar “The Diva,” as labeled by The WE Network is the youngest… Tamar randomly and very periodically threw out this phrase during her conversations and it was very annoying to me. “The bomb dotcom”. What??? Or “that is the bull you know what dotcom…
She wants desperately to have her own singing career and to end her do wop background singing days with Toni, and her hubby Vincent happens to be Toni’s Manager.
The mother of all of the ladies is Ms. Eveyln, “Momager,” (mom + manager) wasn’t shown that much on this first episode. One thing that was clear though, was that she is not one to be played with—if you know what I mean. She watched her grandchildren while the girls go to Bermuda to perform.
Trina, labeled “The Party Girl,” is being portrayed to have a drinking problem, but I am not convinced just yet. She did suggest drinks a few times on various occasions, but I don’t think that makes her a lush.
Towanda, “The Responsible One,” lives with her family, yet she and her husband date other people. It seems that she is sure the relationship is over but they want to present a united front for their children. The rules are no one can bring their date home.
Next we have, Miss Traci, “The Wannabe”. Traci used to sing, but maybe I missed why she no longer does. BUT—she wants to. From the moment the rehearsals began, she expressed, cried even about wanting to be on stage again. Tamar told her really quickly that she could have her doo wop gig, because it wasn’t something to brag about.
And last, but not least Toni… “The Superstar.” She seems really laid back in this first episode. Totally someone I could hang with (fellow Libra). Her sister mention that she liked the movie Pride and Prejudice (love it) and we can tell she likes to sleep! Another favorite past time of mine!
I have to applaud anyone who allows the world inside of their lives, though. To be seen during your ups and downs, your good and your bad, for people to judge (which will be done regardless), and left open to scrutiny is just amazing. The show airs on Tuesdays at 9pm on WE. Tune in for Braxton Values…
