The show called “The First 48″, has been following homicide units in more than a dozen U.S. cities for the past 7 years. And word spread quickly that the The DeKalb County, GA footage is supposed to air on the A&E Network next summer, but not if some County Commissioners get their way.
Commissioner Lee May, is one person working to see if there is a legal way out of the free TV contract signed by Police Chief O’Brien, Chief Operating Officer Richard Stogner and the county attorney.
May said to 11Alive “I think personally it’s problematic in terms of our image,” “I think it’s bad for economic development and bad for just the kind of notoriety of us here in DeKalb County.”
Chief O’ Brien expressed it as an opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication of the homicide unit and said that the TV reality crew has even proved helpful, as more witnesses have come forward during filming.
I didn’t realize it would take the show so long to air, but stay tuned to see if the air date changes to never!
