DeKalb, Henry, Rockdale Legislators Speak to Voters
Reps. Dawkins-Haigler, Mayo, Stephenson invite constituents to discuss priorities

(Atlanta, Ga.) – February 16, 2011 – Since January, more than forty Democratic legislators have hosted town hall meetings. Next week, three more Democrats add their names to the growing list of lawmakers taking their message to communities around the state.

Representatives Dee Dawkins-Haigler, Rahn Mayo and Pam Stephenson will co-host a town hall meeting Monday, February 21 at Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, 6:30 p.m. They expect the state budget, education and jobs to be among the topics discussed, and hope that residents from across their districts will voice their opinions.

“We’re asking our constituents to weigh in on the important issues. We expect to hear a lot about the economy and about education,” said Dawkins-Haigler who represents part of DeKalb and Rockdale Counties.

“As the minority party, Democrats are responsible for offering meaningful alternatives to Republican bills.”

Rep. Stacey Abrams, recently elected to lead the House Democratic Caucus, has vowed to reconnect Democratic leaders with constituents.

“Our economic security and educational opportunities packages are how we can make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of Georgians,” said Abrams. “Democrats have vowed to stand against tax breaks for corporations and tax hikes for working families and to fully fund educational programs.”

“Good government is open government,” said Mayo, who represents part of DeKalb and Henry counties. “We are organizing conversations around the state to continue shining the light on the tough decisions we must make at the gold dome.”
