Even during the time of smartphones and organization applications on my Ipod Touch, I still find comfort in a physical calendar/planner. Each year I go on a search to find the perfect replacement for the previous years winner. I get sort of anal about it to be honest, as I have learned what works for me and what doesn’t.
I usually start this search in late October, and I have bought 3 or 4 once, just to make sure I didn’t miss out on what could be the best available option for the year. (returning them of course when a decision has been made). Its funny that one location of a chain, may have totally different options than another (guess it depends on the area).
Anyway, during this year’s search I know I need a calendar that shows monthly views. I want to be able to look at the month and know if I have an appointment on any particular day before I make plans for something else. I for one, find that difficult to do on my HTC TouchPro2. Although I can see that I have something on that day, I will have to open that day, to see the time slot of the scheduled event, which is a hassle (for me).

I prefer that the 12 months are at the beginning of the calendar together, and not placed throughout the daily pages. But what I’ve learned is, unless I design my own calendars, sometimes I have to give and take on the details. And daily pages are necessary. I like to be able to actually plan the day on these pages. I don’t usually care if the times are listed or not, I just need the space to be able to plan out the entire day, on the days that I have multiple tasks to complete.
The outside cover of the calendar is also usually a task, just because I can recall that this particular one wore out to fast from the daily in and out of my purse. Or this one that was made of a beautiful apple green material but held on to all the makeup and junk of my purse.
So, this year I am returning to one of my first. Its a Barnes and Noble Calendar. The monthly pages are found throughout the daily pages, but the hard exterior and professionalism of the book make it an even trade off. I also love the character of the Barnes and Noble Calendar this year, as it showcases many authors in caricatures and provides a little insight into each writer.
I am pleased with my choice, and look forward to filling my pages with many dates… Thanks Barnes and Nobles!
