As Christmas approaches, and I start to scratch various people off of my Christmas Gift List (LOL— I’m just serious), I think about the people who’s last concern is buying a gift. I think about the people who will lose love ones during this cheerful season, those who will remember their lost ones.
My mind wonders about those who will try to avoid packing up their families due to foreclosure and those who are one check away from losing it all.
My best friend and I will do a cheesy gift exchange, like make each other something, because otherwise we’d swap gifts at the same cost and it would not be as much fun. My man and I, we will investing in our future travel plans.
I will especially miss my dad at this time of year, and I will try not to show that pain to my mom because it will make her sad to know that I am sad. I will wish that I could fly her all over the world because she kinda has most of the things she could want or need.
But what will stand out to her, and possibly bring her to tears— is a box of Chocolate Covered Cherry’s.
Thats right, a $0.99 box of candy is going to give her a better feeling on the inside because it was on of the many constant gifts that my father gave her every Christmas. So for her to know that I do and will always remember to carry on that tradition- makes her warm, fuzzy and complete.
Moral- give people something more than a hat and scarf set. Do something nice for people, rake an old lady’s yard. Or help someone put their lights up. Don’t send a group text message to people you haven’t spoken to all year- its so impersonal. People want to feel special and know that someone cares about them. I know I do.

Donna that is so true its definitely the small things that count. I just love to spend time with my family during the holidays gifts arent a big deal but the time we spend together is more special than any gift.
Agreed Alena!… There is nothing like the quality time, moments and memories that will outlast any gift.
