GEORGIA WORK$
In response to historically high levels of unemployment, Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) Commissioner Michael L. Thurmond created Georgia Work$ (GW$), an innovative training initiative designed to stimulate job growth and hiring.
People who are currently receiving Unemployment Benefits can get on the job training from participating employers. The recipient will receive additional money from the Department of Labor, for working a maximum of 24 hours a week for a maximum of 6 weeks. The end result is that the unemployed person hopes that the employer will be impressed with their learning ability and skills that they will hire them. The participating employers are risk free because they don’t have to pay the trainee, GDOL takes care of that. All the individual needs is the opportunity.
The great thing about this program, is that you are not restricted to the jobs listed with GDOL. You are free to present the program to any legit potential employer. Each individual will need to check with a career center to get details and enroll in the program.
Again, you must be a current recipient of unemployment within the state of Georgia.
