why did I get married too

Tyler Perry’s highly anticipated Why Did I Get Married Too was overall a good movie, a romantic comedy about relationships. It was filled with highs and lows, a few comedic moments, loudness from Angela, and a true emotional rollercoaster ride from beginning to end.

Janet Jackson (Patricia) was good, but unfortunately I couldn’t take one of her big scenes serious because Malik (Gavin) did some crazy lick her face gesture and I, and a few others were sidetracked and laughing.

Shelia and Troy (Jill and Lamman) were battling the all-too-real consequences of unemployment and the boundary building that comes with a new relationship.

Terry (Tyler) is way to calm and collected when he suspects and confirms Diane (Sharon) of foul play.

Marcus and Angela (Michael jai and Tasha) were hilariously over the top, but very engaging. When she talked about all the ways she checks him… I was tired from listening.

The movie stands alone and doesn’t depend on the first installment. There were some boring moments where I thought about dashing to the concession stand, but I resisted. Although some storylines were predictable there were a few unexpected bombs to fall before the final curtain call.

Tyler’s point (I think), was that all couples have issues and you have to find a way to work through them. But after the film you are left to make your own conclusions and breakthroughs- because none of the couples really solved their problems which I can appreciate. You have to learn what will work in your relationship through trial and error. Even the couple that they thought were the blueprint for relationships turned out not to be.

I think what I did walk away with is that I want a relationship where no one gives up. A relationship where he is just as willing to stay with me through my indecisiveness and mood swings as I am willing to stay through his.

**I will catch the next Tyler Perry flick on opening weekend, and I am glad that he is in and uses the city of Atlanta.
