Far from the clear tone she once possessed but definitely better than what most pop artist can dream to put out. Whitney Houston is and will always be a legend. I cannot stress enough the importance of “being careful how you judge others, because it’s the same measure that people will soon judge you.” (Better said in Matthew 7:1-5)
With that said, I don’t think Whitney should be compared to who she was 30 years ago (did I exaggerate?). Her voice shouldn’t be expected to be as strong and clear as it once was. Mariah has been in the game half of Whitney’s time and she is already fading vocally.
1992 Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan was not the same as the 2001 Washington Wizards Jordan- but with scrutiny he proceeded to with his season. Give Whitney a chance. Her message is one of self discovery, healing, health, love and new beginnings. Don’t get it twisted she is still WHITNEY FREAKING HOUSTON…providing that unique soul sound that is recognizable on her cd title track I Look to You, produced by Atlanta’s Own C. “Tricky” Stewart.
Her cd sounds like it could be straight from the pages of her last 5 year diary condensed into 12 tracks that included producers StarGate, Danja, and the infamous David Foster. She addresses her personal struggles and believing in herself in a ballad titled I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.
She continues in another cut from the new LP titled Salute, which is pretty self explanatory as she walks us thru regaining her self confidence.
And I think which will be my favorite is a trendy track written and produced by Johntá Austin and Eric Hudson titled Worth It that covers my favorite subject, love…
I want to give Whitney flowers from me to her, while she is here to smell them. She will never sing for us the way she once did, but she has made history with her talent and charm. I don’t want to mix this with any negative reminders of her past because I too have one, as I’m sure all of you do as well.
(Didn’t you get tired of the MJ coverage that started off with all of the reported scandals?)
Below are some lyrics from the 3 songs mentioned above:
***It’s a beautiful thing, when it’s shared between two
The most beautiful thing about it.
That is so much more than you.
There ain’t nothing in the world like (being with your lover)
Nothing in the world like (seeing one another)
Happy with the one you need the most
This is for the lovers holding hands in the car
This is for the lovers no matter where you are
This is for you (is for you, is for you, is for you)
This is for you (is for you, is for you)
***I didn’t know my own strength And I crashed down, and I tumbled But I did not crumble I got through all the pain I didn’t know my own strength Survived my darkest hour My faith kept me alive I picked myself back up Hold my head up high
I was not built to break
***So don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years
Through all of the drama and the pain and all of the tears
It’s time to stop this roller coaster, so that I can get off
And start moving mountains, swimming seas, and climbing over

Not even crack huh?
Not even crack? With all the alleged crack she smoked- you can still sing 5 songs word for word in 10 minutes. That’s a legend.
she bounced back well tho.
